Our Vision
To be a trusted leader in the poultry industry, recognised for our commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and the growth of a sustainable and thriving agricultural sector in South Africa.
Our Mission
To produce and supply high-quality day-old chicks with consistency, care, and integrity — supporting our customers’ success through excellence in service, innovation, and sustainable poultry production.
Our Process:
Supplying Quality Day-Old Chicks
At Lufafa Hatchery, quality begins long before a chick hatches. Our carefully managed production process ensures that every step — from breeding to delivery — meets the highest standards of health, hygiene, and efficiency.
1. Breeder Operations
We currently operate 22 breeder sites, each accommodating flocks of approximately 7,300 laying hens. Day-old chicks sourced from Grandparent flocks are placed on-site and reared separately as hens and cocks.
Each flock is raised in line with strict nutritional and vaccination protocols, ensuring optimal bird health and genetic performance. Our breeder stock includes Ross and Arbor Acres strains — globally recognised for their consistency, productivity, and strong growth characteristics.
2. Egg Production
At around 20 weeks of age, hens and cocks are introduced (“married up”), and from approximately 22 weeks, the hens begin to lay naturally fertilised eggs.
3. Egg Collection and Incubation
Fertile eggs are disinfected on site and transported to our hatchery, where they are carefully graded and placed into setters (incubators) for 18 days. They are then transferred to hatchers for a further 3 days to complete the 21-day incubation cycle.
4. Hatching and Dispatch
Once hatched, chicks are counted, graded, and vaccinated to ensure they meet our strict quality standards. Only the healthiest chicks are selected for delivery to our customers, ensuring excellent on-farm performance and customer satisfaction.
At Lufafa Hatchery, our meticulous process and dedicated team ensure that every chick we deliver is the result of careful planning, expert management, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
